My name is Michaela Dunn, and I am professional editor and proofreader currently based in the state of Wyoming.
I specialize in working with independent authors of Young Adult Fiction, Literary Fiction, Historical Fiction, arts and humanities students, and publications.
Education and Training
I have a B.A. in Communication from the University of Wyoming. My research project covered narratology--the study of narrative and narrative structure and the ways they affect human perception.
A lover of learning, I also have a B.S. in English Education from Valley City State University in North Dakota. I taught English Language Arts for a few years in Wyoming. My favorite part of teaching was writing and walking my students through the process of creating a clearly written piece which concisely presented their thoughts and ideas.
In addition, I have a graduate certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute at the University of Denver.
Professional and editorial training:
Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing
ACES - The Society for Editing
EFA - Editorial Freelancers Association.
I have two years experience working as a technical editor for counseling centers in the Denver Metro Area. I wrote forms and contracts, updated and edited all paperwork to be in compliance with the governing boards.
I also have one year experience as a proofreader in a print shop ensuring spelling and typesetting were correct for various local business before sending to the printer.
I spend most of my free time with my two little girls: reading stories, playing games, and baking. When I have my own personal time, I consume books and video games. I have a particular interest in medieval history and Greek mythology.
I love traveling with my family, writing fiction, and snuggling with my big, black monster cat.
